Locations

Cost codes tell you what kind of work is happening. Locations tell you where. Set up your buildings, floors, and rooms once, and tasks pinned on a plan sheet tag themselves with the room they land in.

Setting Up Locations

Locations live on the project’s Overview tab. In the progress section, switch from Cost Codes to Locations.

Click + Add Location, then give it a name, a type — Building, Floor, Room, or Area — and where it sits.

The structure is yours to decide. A high-rise goes Building → Floor → Room. A single-story warehouse might be nothing but Areas. Nest up to five levels deep.

Rearranging

  • Drag a location onto another to nest it inside
  • Use the and arrows to move a location out one level, or into the location above it
  • Check several locations to move or delete them together — checking a location grabs everything inside it

Floors Own a Sheet

When you add a Floor or a Building, you can pick the plan sheet that shows it. That one link does the work later: rooms you draw on that sheet land inside that floor automatically.

Rooms and Areas have no sheet picker. They get their sheet by being drawn on one.

Drawing Rooms on a Plan

  1. Open a sheet from the Plans tab
  2. Click the location tool in the viewer toolbar
  3. Drag a box around the room
  4. Name it, or place a location you already created

Hold Space to pan the sheet while the location tool is active.

Click a room to select it. Drag it to move, drag a corner to resize, or hit Edit to rename it. Remove from sheet takes the outline off the drawing but keeps the location in your tree — to delete it for good, use the tree on the Overview tab.

Tagging Work

Drop a task pin inside a room and the task picks up that room. Nothing to type. Move the pin to another room and the tag follows it.

You can also set it by hand: open a task and pick the Location. That works on web and in the iOS app.

On the Tasks tab, filter by location. Pick a floor and you get everything in it, room by room.

Progress by Location

The Locations toggle on the Overview tab shows the same progress you get from cost codes, broken out by area instead:

  • Tasks with budgeted quantities roll up as installed vs. budgeted
  • Everything else counts finished tasks against total tasks

Progress rolls up the tree, so a floor shows the total of every room inside it.

In the Field

The iOS app shows what the office set up:

  • Rooms outline on plan sheets — turn them on or off under the overlay filters
  • Task cards show the room the work is in
  • Pinning a task inside a room tags it, same as web
  • Change a task’s room from the task screen
  • The progress screen switches between Cost Codes and Locations

Building the tree and drawing rooms stays on web. The field reads it.

On the Plans Tab

Once floors and rooms exist, the sheet list shows more:

  • The floor a sheet belongs to, as a chip you can click to filter by
  • How many rooms are drawn on each sheet
  • A location filter for the whole list

To hand a sheet to a floor without opening the tree, hover the sheet and use Assign floor.

Tips

  • Set up floors and link them to their plan sheets first. Every room you draw after that files itself.
  • Draw rooms on the floor plan sheet, not on an RCP or an electrical plan. Task pins land where the work is drawn.
  • A sheet covering two levels (a “Level 03 + 04” plan) can hold rooms for both floors. Draw them and drag each room under the right floor in the tree.
