Plans

LogLoon’s Plans Processing feature lets you upload construction drawing PDFs and automatically extracts each sheet with its number and name. Your field crews can then view individual sheets on their mobile devices.

How It Works

When you upload a PDF plan set, LogLoon:

  1. Extracts each page as a separate sheet
  2. Detects the sheet number (e.g., A101, S-2.1, MEP001)
  3. Identifies the sheet name (e.g., “First Floor Plan”, “Structural Framing”)
  4. Generates thumbnails for quick browsing
  5. Creates high-resolution images for detailed viewing on mobile

The entire process typically takes 1-2 minutes for a 50-page plan set.

Uploading Plans

  1. Go to your project’s Plans tab
  2. Click Upload Plans
  3. Select a PDF file (up to 100MB, 150 pages max)
  4. Wait for processing to complete
  5. Review and confirm the extracted sheet information

Confirming Sheets

After processing, you’ll see a confirmation dialog showing:

  • Thumbnail preview of each sheet
  • Detected sheet number and name
  • Warning icons (⚠) for low-confidence detections that need review

Sheets with low confidence are highlighted so you know which ones to check. You can edit any incorrect sheet numbers or names before confirming.

Revisions

When plans get updated, you can upload revised versions:

  1. Upload a new PDF with the updated sheets
  2. LogLoon detects sheets with the same sheet numbers as previous uploads
  3. The new sheets are marked as the current revision (Rev 1, Rev 2, etc.)
  4. Previous versions are preserved for reference

Viewing Revisions

In the sheet viewer, if a sheet has multiple revisions:

  • A dropdown appears showing all available revisions
  • Select any revision to view it (e.g., “Original”, “Rev 1”, “Rev 2”)
  • The main sheet list shows only the latest version of each sheet

Sheet Number Detection

LogLoon recognizes a wide variety of sheet numbering conventions used in construction:

FormatExamples
Single letter prefixA101, S1, E001
Multi-letter prefixFP101, AD2.1, MEP001
Multi-level numbersA2.1.1, A3.1.2B, PD2.1.A
Various delimitersA-101, A.101, A101

Supported Discipline Prefixes

LogLoon recognizes 30+ standard discipline prefixes:

  • G - General
  • C - Civil
  • L - Landscape
  • A - Architectural
  • S - Structural
  • M - Mechanical
  • P - Plumbing
  • E - Electrical
  • FP - Fire Protection
  • FA - Fire Alarm
  • And many more…

Sheet Name Detection

Sheet names are identified using multiple signals:

  1. Position - Names are typically in the title block (bottom-right area)
  2. Font size - Sheet names are usually larger than surrounding text
  3. Keywords - Common terms like “Plan”, “Elevation”, “Section”, “Detail”
  4. Proximity - Names appear near the sheet number

Multi-Line Titles

LogLoon handles complex multi-line sheet names common in architectural drawings:

FIRST FLOOR
LIFE SAFETY &
EVACUATION PLAN

These are automatically merged into a single sheet name.

Vertical Text

Some plan sets use vertically-oriented text in the title block. LogLoon detects and properly reads rotated text.

Tips for Best Results

PDF Quality

  • Use vector PDFs when possible (CAD exports) rather than scanned images
  • Ensure text is selectable, not rasterized
  • Higher resolution scans produce better results

Title Block Placement

  • Standard title block placement (bottom-right) works best
  • Non-standard layouts may require manual correction

After Upload

  • Always review the confirmation dialog
  • Edit any incorrect detections before confirming
  • Excluded sheets won’t appear in the mobile app

Viewing Plans on Mobile

Once confirmed, your field crew can:

  1. Open the project in the LogLoon app
  2. Tap Plans to see all uploaded plan sets
  3. Browse sheets by thumbnail
  4. Tap any sheet to view full resolution
  5. Pinch to zoom for detail

Pinning Tasks to Plans

You can pin tasks to specific locations on plan sheets, making it easy to see where work needs to happen.

Creating a Pin

  1. Open a plan sheet in the viewer
  2. Tap the Pin button (📍) to enter pin mode
  3. Tap the location on the sheet where the task applies
  4. Select an existing task or create a new one
  5. The pin appears on the sheet with the task’s status color

Pin Colors

Pins are color-coded by task status:

StatusColor
BacklogGray
ReadyBlue
In ProgressOrange
BlockedRed
DoneGreen

Managing Pins

  • Tap a pin to view the task details
  • Long-press a pin to see options (View Task, Delete Pin)
  • Long-press and drag to reposition a pin (Managers only)

Pin Counts

The sheet list shows how many pins are on each sheet, helping you quickly find sheets with active work.

Troubleshooting

”Sheet number shows as ‘Sheet 1’, ‘Sheet 2’, etc.”

This happens when LogLoon can’t detect the actual sheet number. Common causes:

  • Sheet number is embedded in an image, not text
  • Non-standard sheet numbering format
  • Title block is in an unusual location

Solution: Edit the sheet numbers manually in the confirmation dialog.

”Sheet name is wrong or missing”

Sheet name detection is more challenging than numbers. If names are incorrect:

  • The title may be formatted unusually
  • Text encoding in the PDF may be non-standard
  • The name might be in a non-typical location

Solution: Edit the names manually before confirming.

”Processing failed”

Check that:

  • File is under 100MB
  • File has fewer than 150 pages
  • File is a valid PDF (not corrupted)
